Policewomen have made an enormous contribution to Victoria Police

Oral histories of pioneering policewomen

As part of celebrating 100 years of women in Victoria Police and the Museum's Agents of Change exhibition, we have compiled a series of oral histories of former police women to learn about what policing was like for these trailblazing members.

Listen to the stories of former Sergeant Eileen Rainford, Senior Sergeants Joan Paffett and Edna Meadows (nee Fyfe) and Senior Sergeant Myrene Purcell. Also featured among the recordings is former Chief Inspector Bryan Kelly, who was involved in the appointment of some of the first police women to stations outside the CBD, including Springvale.
